I’m going to share about adaptive headlight system. This system comes with a new modern vehicle, and there has a lot of benefit to this system. In this article, you will find the technology and how it works.
What is the adaptive headlight system?
Basically, Front headlights of modern cars are automatically adjusted according to other vehicle’s lights or when stop the vehicle. This system is known as “Automatic headlight range control” or “Adaptive headlights.”
In other words, Front headlight automatically changes the position as up, down and left, right according to your vehicle load, other objects, roads and vehicles.
Types of adaptive headlights system
There have two types of adaptive headlights range control system.
- the dynamic adaptive control system
- the static adaptive control system
In a static system, the headlight will automatically change according to passengers and boot loaded weight.
Static headlight range control system use signals of level sensors, speedometers and ABS control unit to identify vehicle speed or vehicle states (park or running). Then this system can change headlights 100% accurately with those data.
In a dynamic system, lights will automatically change,
- when turning the vehicle according to roads
- according to other vehicles
- when accelerate and press brake paddle the car
In other words, the dynamic system will work according to vehicle movements. It will 100% accurately change headlights in all driving situations. Also, the dynamic range control unit checks all activity of accelerating braking and signals lights.
There has headlight actuator motor attach to front headlights. These motors can change the position of headlights within a second. Also, there have xenon headlights for this automatic headlight range control system.
Is that worth it?
This is a very powerful safety feature. It helps to ride in night time without worrying about other vehicle and road. But unfortunately, this feature makes as a luxury feature, not as a safety feature. But currently, this feature comes with most of the vehicle.
